UPS Demand Surcharges (Peak Season Surcharges) 2024
The Demand Surcharges will apply in the amounts set forth below. Please note that the Demand Surcharge to any parcels that meet specifications for the Over Maximum Limits has been in application since April 17, 2023 and will remain until further notice.
A. Demand Surcharge – Applied to packages that require Additional Handling
Effective September 9, a Demand Surcharge of £6.50 will apply to packages that require Additional Handling until January 31, 2025. This is charged in addition to the current Additional Handling Surcharge of £5.55 (plus 10% demand increase)
Additional Handling applies to the following:
- Any article that is encased in an outside shipping container made of metal or wood
- Any cylindrical item, such as a barrel, drum, pail, or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container
- Any package with the longest side exceeding 110cm or its second-longest side exceeding 70cm
- Any import, export or domestic package with an actual weight greater than 25 kg
- Each import, export or domestic package in a shipment where the average weight per package is greater than 25 kg and the weight for each package is not specified on the source document or the shipping system used.
The Demand Surcharge will be a flat fee per parcel in addition to existing rates, surcharges and/or fees.
B. Demand Surcharge – Applied to Large Packages
Effective September 9, a Demand Surcharge of £62.40 will apply to Large Packages until January 31, 2025. This is charged in addition to the current Large Package Surcharge which is £60 (plus 10% demand increase).
A package is considered a “Large Package” when its length plus girth [girth = (2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 300cm, but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 400cm. Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 40kg in addition to the Large Package Surcharge.
The Demand Surcharge will be a flat fee per parcel in addition to existing rates, surcharges and/or fees.
C. Demand Surcharge – Applied to parcels that meet specifications for the Over Maximum Limits
A Demand Surcharge has been in application since April 17, 2023 to any parcels that meet specifications for the Over Maximum Limits to all destinations. Effective September 9, the Demand Surcharge will increase to £398.00 and is charged in addition to the current Over maximum Limits Surcharge of £384.00 (plus 10% Demand increase).
Over Maximum Limits Charge Specifications: Packages with an actual weight of more than 70kg, or that exceed 274cm in length, or exceed a total of 400cm in length and girth combined [girth = (2 x width) + (2 x height)], are not accepted for transportation. If found in the UPS network, they are subject to an additional charge. Packages exceeding 400cm in length and girth combined are also subject to the Large Package Surcharge.
CSM are encouraging all customers who utilise the UPS network as part of their shipping requirements to be vigilant when shipping consignments during this period. For example, a shipment with the dimensions of 120 x 80 x 70cms would be exposed to the following charges:
- Additional handling – £6.05 (£5.50 + 10% demand surcharge)
- Demand Additional Handling – £6.50
- Large Package Surcharge – £66.00 (£60 + 10% demand surcharge
- Demand Large Package Surcharge £62.40
- Overmax Surcharge – £422.40 (£384.00 + 10% demand surcharge)
- Demand Overmax Surcharge – £398.00
- Fuel surcharge – £177.85
- Total Surcharges = £1139.20
The Demand Surcharge will be a flat fee per parcel in addition to existing rates, surcharges and/or fees.
All additional surcharges are subject to the current fuel surcharge.
