High duty charges on exports to the United States involving products containing metal.
Any product containing aluminum, it is essential to clearly indicate both:
- The Country of Origin
- The Country of Smelting
Additionally, please provide a breakdown of quantities associated with each origin.
Failure to include this information may result in duty charges of up to 200%, as per US import regulations.
If the country where an aluminum derivative product was cast and smelted is unknown, it must be reported as “UN.” Aluminum derivative U.S. imports listed as “UN” will face a 200% duty under Section 232 tariffs, in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection guidance. If not specified on the commercial invoice, UPS will default the country of cast and smelt to “UN.” More information can be found here.
You can ensure your shipments of aluminum derivatives will receive the proper duty rate by specifying the country where an aluminum derivative product was cast and smelted on the commercial invoice.
